about us
our mission
restore280 Institute carries out research, education, and interventions to restore the atmospheric, political, economic, and social conditions human dignity requires, beginning with returning atmospheric CO2 to its 280 ppm pre-industrial baseline.
what we do
-
restore280 conducts original research on the systems that determine whether atmospheric CO2 can return to 280 ppm, including engineered carbon sequestration approaches and the economic and policy structures around them.
-
restore280 produces long-form video essays and written explainers that trace everyday experiences back to the systems behind them and show what people can do about them.
-
restore280 acts directly on the systems that keep atmospheric CO2 above 280 ppm. We move promising sequestration research toward real-world deployment, build partnerships with institutions that can carry that work to scale, and direct capital toward the technical, economic, and policy changes with the greatest measurable effect on the atmosphere and on the conditions human dignity depends on. We select each intervention by its expected impact on our mission and document its results publicly, including results that fall short.
